What Do the Colored Notes Mean? A Guide to Super Simple Piano

Understanding our color-coded note system and how it helps you learn piano faster.

Our Color-Coded System

Super Simple Piano uses colors to help you find the right keys on your piano or keyboard. Each color represents a specific note, making it easy to follow along even if you can't read traditional sheet music.

Three Ways to Learn

1. Lead Sheet

Shows the melody with colored note circles on a traditional staff. You see the lyrics below and the note names inside each circle. Best for: learning melody and lyrics together.

2. Bars Sheet

Shows colored bars that scroll across the screen as the song plays. The position of each bar tells you which key to press, and the length tells you how long to hold it. Best for: visual learners who want to see the timing clearly.

3. Notes Sheet

A simplified version of traditional sheet music with colored notes. Best for: players who want to transition to reading standard notation.

How to Use It

  • Pick a song you want to learn
  • Choose your sheet style (we recommend Lead Sheet for beginners)
  • Press Play and watch the notes highlight as the song plays
  • Follow along on your piano — match the colors to the keys
  • Slow it down if needed — use the speed control (50% to 100%)
  • No Sheet Music Experience Needed

That's the whole point! Our system is designed so that anyone can start playing piano immediately. As you practice, you'll naturally start recognizing note patterns and eventually won't need the colors at all.

Try it now — pick any song and start playing!
