Why people print MIDI files

MIDI is a screen format. When you want to actually play from a music stand — at a lesson, a gig, a recital — you need paper. Common scenarios:

How to do it

What the PDF looks like

Letter size by default (8.5" × 11"). A4 supported via print dialog.

Title block at the top — uses the MIDI filename if no title was set

Tempo marking below the title

Time signature and key signature at the start of each system

Grand staff layout (treble + bass clefs) with proper hand splitting

Measure numbers at the start of each system

Page numbers at the bottom

The engraving uses standard music notation conventions. It's not "AI-looking" — it's regular sheet music that any pianist can read.

When the result needs cleanup

If the source MIDI was clean (exported from a notation editor or a quantized DAW track), the PDF is print-ready as-is.

If the source was a raw performance recording (live played on a digital piano), you may want to:

Adjust quantization: very small timing errors create awkward 32nd-note rests. We round aggressively but not perfectly.

Re-voice chords: the auto-voicing groups notes into hands; if you want a specific 4-voice fugal layout, you'll need MuseScore.

Add expression: dynamics (p, mf, f), slurs, fingering — the MIDI doesn't carry this information.

For these cases: download the MusicXML instead of (or in addition to) the PDF. Open the MusicXML in MuseScore. Edit. Export to PDF from MuseScore.

Print quality details

The PDF is vector (not raster), so it stays crisp at any zoom level and prints sharp on any printer. Specifications:

Font: Bravura (open-source music font, used by professional engravers)

Resolution: vector — no DPI loss

File size: typically 50KB–300KB for a 3-minute piece

Compatibility: opens in Preview, Acrobat, Edge, every PDF viewer

How it compares to MuseScore
