How transposing works
Transposing changes every chord up or down by the same interval — the song's melody and chord relationships stay the same, but the actual pitches shift. Common uses:
- Match a vocalist's range (lower a song that sits too high)
- Move to an easier key on piano (C major vs F♯ major)
- Pair with other instruments in different keys
- Practice modulation by playing a song in all 12 keys
