Walk ing on the road to Je ru sa lem, the time had come to sac ri fice a (C)gain. My two small (G)sons, they walked be (Am)side me on the road. The rea son that they came was to watch the (C)lamb. “Dad dy, Dad dy, what will we see there? There’s so much that we don’t un der (C)stand.” So I told them of (G)Mo ses and (Am)Fa ther A bra ham, and then I said, “Dear chil (G)dren, watch the (C)lamb. There will be so man (C)y in Je (F)ru sa lem to day. We must be sure the lamb (F)does n’t run a way.” Then I (C)told them of (G)Mo ses and Fa ther A bra ham, and then I said, “Dear chil (G)dren, watch the (C)lamb.” When we reached the cit (Ab)y, I knew (Bbm)some thing must be wrong. There were no joy ful wor (Ab)ship ers, no joy ful wor ship songs. Forced to play in this (Db)dra ma, a part I did not wish to play. (Ebm)Why up on this day were (Ab)men con demned to die? Why were we (Gb)stand ing here, where (Ab)soon they would pass by? I (Db)looked and said, “E ven now they come.” The first one cried for mer cy; the peo ple gave him none. The (Db)sec ond one was vio (Ab)lent, he was ar ro gant and loud. I still can hear his an gry voice scream ing at the (Ab)crowd. Then (Bbm)some one said, “There’s (Db)Je sus,” and I scarce be lieved my eyes. A man so bad ly (Db)beat en, He bare ly looked a live. Blood poured from His bod (Ebm)y, from the thorns up on His brow, run ning down the cross and fall ing to the ground. I (Db)watched Him as He (Ab)strug gled, I watched Him as He fell. The cross came down up on (Ab)His back; the crowd be gan to (Ab)yell. In that (Db)mo ment I felt such (Ab)ag o ny, in that (Bbm)mo ment I felt such loss, un til a Ro man sol dier (Ab)grabbed my arm and screamed, “You! (CN.C.)Car ry His (Ab)cross!” At (Bbm)first I tried to re (Db)sist him, then his (Gb)hand reached for his sword. And so I knelt and took the (Gb)cross from the Lord. I placed it on my shoul der and start ed down the street. The blood that He’d been (Ebm)shed ding was (Ab)run ning down my cheek. They (Db)led us to Gol (Ab)go tha, they drove nails deep in His feet and hands. Yet up on the cross I (Ab)heard Him pray, “Fa ther, for give (Ab)them.” Oh, (Db)nev er have I (Ab)seen such love in an y oth er eyes. “In to Thy hands, I com (Ab)mit My spir it,” He (Gb)prayed, and then He (Db)died. I stood for what seemed like (Db)years; I’d lost all sense of time, un til I felt two (Db)ti ny hands hold ing tight to mine. My chil dren stood there weep ing; I heard the old est say, “Fa ther, please for give (Ebm)us; the (Ab)lamb ran a (Dbsus)way.” “Dad dy, Dad (Ab)dy, what have we seen here? There’s so much that (Ab)we don’t un der stand.” So I took them in my (Ab)arms, we turned and faced the (Db)cross, and then I said, “Dear (Ab)chil dren, watch the (Dbsus)Lamb.”
