Ev ’ry piece was small and I did n’t have a coat.

It was way down in the (F)fall.

Ma ma (Bb)sewed the rags to geth er.

Sew in’ (Eb)ev ’ry piece with love.

She made my (Bb)coat of ma ny col ors, that (F)I was so proud of.

As she (Bb)sewed she told a sto ry from the bi ble she had read, a bout a coat of ma ny col ors Jo seph (F)wore and then she said…

“Per (Bb)haps this coat will bring you good (Eb)luck and hap pi ness.” I just (Bb)could n’t wait to wear it and Ma ma (F)blessed it with a kiss.

So with (C)patch es on my britch es and holes in both my shoes, in my coat of ma ny co lors Ma I (G)hur ried off to school, just to (C)find the o thers laugh ing and ma (F)mak ing fun of me.

And, oh, I (C)could n't un der stand it for I felt I was rich.

And I told them ’bout the love my Ma ma (G)sewed in ev ’ry stitch.

And I (C)told them all the stor ies Ma ma (F)told me why she sewed and how my (C)coat of ma ny col ors was worth (G)more than all their clothes.
